Frequently Asked Questions

What We Do

Information Disclaimer

The information provided below is for reference and general guidance purposes only. Renovation and painting projects are unique; therefore, individual project costs, timelines, and technical recommendations will differ based on your specific needs. A comprehensive and personalized estimate will be provided only after a formal consultation is completed.

Planning & Trust

How does rcpainting.ca handle unexpected issues once a project starts? We believe in total transparency. If we discover hidden issues—such as mold, outdated wiring, or structural damage—behind walls or under flooring, we pause work immediately. Our process involves documenting the find with photos and providing a fixed-cost Change Order for your approval before proceeding. Our goal is to ensure there are no “surprise” charges on your final invoice.

Who will be working in my home? Your project is handled by our dedicated core team of professionals, supplemented by vetted specialists we have partnered with for years. We act as your primary point of contact and perform regular site inspections to ensure our quality standards are met.

Are you insured and licensed to work in the GTA? Yes. We carry comprehensive liability insurance and maintain active WSIB coverage for every team member. This ensures that you are fully protected from liability in the event of on-site accidents or property damage.

Specialized Services & Exterior Work

Can you remove popcorn or stucco ceilings without making a mess? Yes. We utilize HEPA-filtered orbital sanders designed to capture the vast majority of dust. For homes built before the mid-1980s, we also discuss the importance of asbestos testing before work begins. Removing popcorn is a top project for increasing home ROI and modernizing lighting.

Is it possible to paint vinyl siding, gutters, and window frames? Absolutely. We use “vinyl-safe” paints with special pigments that prevent dark colors from absorbing excessive heat, which protects the siding from warping. For windows and gutters, we provide factory-style finishes that mimic the look of brand-new aluminum.

Is it better to paint or stain a fence? In the GTA climate, staining is generally superior. Penetrating oil-based stains soak into the wood and fade naturally over time, whereas paint creates a film that can trap moisture and eventually peel.

Can epoxy flooring be used for interior spaces? Beyond the garage, epoxy is becoming popular for basements and kitchens. Modern finishes like Metallic Marble or Micro-Terrazzo are waterproof, seamless, and pair well with radiant heating. We prioritize low-VOC resins to ensure your home remains scent-free.

The Renovation Process

How do you manage dust and protect my belongings? We treat your home with the utmost respect. We use heavy-duty plastic barriers to seal off work zones and provide drop cloths and plastic sheeting for surfaces. While we ask homeowners to move small breakables, we handle the heavy lifting of protecting the space and perform a “broom-clean” at the end of every workday.

Do you handle building permits for interior alterations? Yes. While cosmetic changes like painting and flooring usually do not require permits, structural changes (like removing load-bearing walls) or adding secondary suites do. We manage the application process with the city to ensure all work meets the Ontario Building Code.

Are smart home features and sustainable materials worth it? Modern GTA renovations often prioritize energy efficiency and integration. From smart thermostats to high-performance insulation and low-VOC paints, these choices improve indoor air quality and significantly boost long-term resale value.

What is “Underpinning” and why is it popular in Toronto? For older homes with low basement ceilings, underpinning involves lowering the floor to gain height. This process can significantly increase livable square footage and property value, making it ideal for luxury media rooms or rental suites.
